Mad Rose Gallery, located in Millerton, NY, showcases exceptional contemporary fine art and photography while fostering an inclusive, creative community. Through curated exhibitions, educational programs, and local events, we aim to inspire, connect, and enrich lives—celebrating both emerging voices and established artists. Position: Mad Rose Gallery: Assistant DirectorStatus: Part-time, 20–25 hours per week, includes weekendsReports To: Gallery Director The Assistant Director supports daily operations of the gallery and leads art education programs.
This hybrid role balances gallery administration with coordinating gallery tours and managing art workshops. Duties include greeting visitors, managing front desk tasks, maintaining artwork inventory, assisting with exhibition setups, handling correspondence, and supporting sales, attending gallery events, including marketing and promotions for exhibitions and workshops. The role requires strong communication skills, in-person commitment, organization, computer skills, graphic design experience and a solid background in art.
Including managing instructors and workshops for the Art Education program. Other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities Gallery Administration (50%)Customer Service: Greet visitors, share information about exhibits, artists, provide pricing and details.Administrative Work: Answer phones, manage emails, sort mail, and update client or mailing lists, maintain gallery tidiness.Inventory & Labels: Track art pieces, create labels, update price lists, and log incoming or outgoing shipments.Exhibition Support: Assist with artwork installation, prepare walls, unpack boxes, attend and assist with opening receptions, gallery events, studio visits.Marketing & Sales: Write Press Releases, post on social media, design and distribute promotional materials, and assist with buyer transactions.
Education & Programming (50%)Program Development: Create and implement art education programs, workshops, and school tours.Community Outreach: Promote events and workshops online, including social media, and graphic design of postcards, flyers and printed promotional materials.Curriculum Design: Write educational materials, order materials, keep track of workshop history, teacher and student contact information.Instructor Management: Schedule, contract, and supervise freelance art instructors.
Qualifications & Skills Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in art history, fine arts, or business.Experience: Prior internship or entry-level work in an art space, museum or retail. Friendly demeanor, professional communication, and attention to detail.Technical Skills: Proficiency (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace databases, and basic graphic design tools) Photoshop and social media platforms and physical ability to help handle art.
