Freelance Packers may work both in-house at our facility and onsite at client locations, depending on project needs.Assignments may range from in-house packing and fabrication to onsite packing, installation support, and preparation of artwork for transport.Responsibilities May IncludePacking and unpacking artwork in-house and onsite under supervisionPreparing artwork for transport, storage, exhibition, and installation under supervisionFabricating custom packing, fitting, cushioning, and support solutions based on provided guidelines and designsPreparing and fitting crate interiors and packing components under supervisionMeasuring artwork and documenting packing requirements under supervisionAssisting with installations and onsite packing projects under supervisionReading and following cut sheets, measurements, packing instructions, and project specifications under supervisionTroubleshooting packing and handling challenges in the field under supervisionWorking collaboratively with Packing, Crating, Design, Production, and Project Management staffMaintaining safe, organized, and professional work practicesFreelancers will have access to a fully equipped carpentry and fabrication shop, tools, equipment, and a wide range of packing and conservation materials when working in-house.Experience and QualificationsPreference will be given to candidates with experience in fine art packing, museum preparation, art handling, fabrication, art installation, carpentry, construction, or related technical fields.A minimum of 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in an art services company, museum, gallery, fabrication studio, workshop, or similar environment is preferred.Strong candidates will demonstrate:Experience safely handling and packing artwork or similarly fragile and valuable objectsStrong hands-on fabrication and problem-solving skillsFamiliarity with fine art packing and fabrication materialsAbility to take accurate measurements and follow detailed instructionsStrong attention to detail and qualityAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamProfessional communication and conduct in client-facing environmentsSchedule and AvailabilityThis is a freelance, project-based position with work scheduled according to production and project needs.Most assignments will take place during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, though occasional schedule flexibility may be helpful depending on project requirements.We welcome candidates with regular freelance availability as well as experienced art handlers and packers who may be available for select projects.Optional PortfolioIf you have photographs of previous work that demonstrate skills or experience relevant to this position, we welcome you to include a portfolio with your application.This might include examples of custom packing, fabrication, crate interiors, foam or archival components, mounts or supports, carpentry, art handling, installation, or other related technical work.Portfolios are optional and may be submitted as a PDF along with your cover letter.
