Part-time Preparator

Andrew Kreps Gallery is currently seeking a Part-time Preparator for immediate hire. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with exhibition installations and de-installations, co-managing local storage, shipping and inventory, packing and storage of artwork, and general maintenance of the appearance of the gallery.This position works closely with the entire gallery staff to ensure the safety of artworks and the gallery\'s operational needs. The role requires exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

The candidate should be a competent team player with knowledge of contemporary art.

Proficiency with art database systems such as Artlogic is preferred.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:• Lead the installation and de-installation of all gallery exhibitions.• Collaborate with the Registrars to manage on-site and off-site artwork storage, including transportation between the gallery and local storage facilities• Maintain accurate artwork location records in Artlogic with the Registrars• Support the handling inbound and outbound crates• Proactively inspect the packing and storage safety of all work• Build and fabricate basic display elements and pedestals• Handle, pack and inspect artworks• Work with the Registrars to create artwork condition reports • Manage the installation of gallery viewing room• Occasionally coordinate artwork deliveries, installations, and de-installations with clients• Perform routine building maintenance tasks, including recycling and garbage disposal and monitoring contractors while on-site• Maintain the overall appearance of the gallery and collaborate with Gallery Assistants to ensure exhibition spaces remain clean and scuff-free with paint touch-upsRequirements• Bachelor’s degree• 3+ years experience in a museum or gallery• Drivers License• Extensive experience in exhibition installation• Must be highly detail-oriented, proactive, and organized• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work on multiple projects at once is a must• Willingness and ability to work off-site and additional hours as needed• Familiarity with condition reporting best practices and the production of technical documentation• Experience with power tools• Experience professionally interfacing with clients and directors • Knowledge of gallery-related programs such as Adobe Suite and Artlogic• Experience driving sprinter vans or 15ft. box trucks is a plus• Experience with gantries and man-lifts is a plusPosition hours are 3 days per week, 10 am to 6 pm.Only qualified candidates will be contacted.
